"After wowing us with their original and enigmatic Afro-funk jazz compositions on Afrodelia, we are once again honored to feature one final musical offering from this mighty Mexican ensemble. Packaged in a loaded 10” EP comes two new tunes recorded at Fonobox Studios in the Summer of 2023. Although this release marks the end of an era for this visionary group, they leave us a pair of instrumental scorchers for the ages. First up on the A side, “China’s Revenge” starts with a slow-stepping sax groove before a growling bass line welcomes a lone flute solo that initially appears restrained, then suddenly roars open its vengeful jaws to a climactic finale. On the flip side, “Motoluño Ataske” cleverly snakes an epic Ethio-jazz-inspired rhythmic and melodic tribute to the undisputed master of Ethiopian Jazz, Mulatu Astake, featuring a hypnotic mix of guitar and organ solos that mesmerize the listener from the start. Over approximately 10 years, Punta Diamante has shared music with numerous audiences across multiple stages and with various musicians who have been part of this family, each contributing a bit of themselves to a project that ended up being something none of us could have ever imagined. We’ll hold your support dearly throughout the band’s history, the cheers, and the good company that always accompanied us. We thank all the venues and festivals that welcomed us and trusted this small but powerful orchestra in their programming. A band that succeeded in carrying out its vision and projecting its music with quality and honesty. Guardaremos con cariño su apoyo durante las presentaciones que tuvo la banda a lo largo de su historia, las porras y toda la buena onda que nos acompañaron.
