West London's own Hollie Cook returns with a brand new collection of reggae / lovers rock-tinged knockouts on June 24, 2022Happy Hour is the singer's fourth record, recorded with her solid back-up band General Roots & featuring contributions from acclaimed Jamaican singer Jah9 & British soul songwriter Maverick Sabre. Reggae icon Dennis Bovell also shows up on a few tracks to sing back-ups, which might be nerve-wracking for the average person, but Cook is no stranger to working among musical icons. As a teenager, she toured with her mentor Ari Up as a member of The Slits (a connection she made via her parents, Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook & singer Jeni of Culture Club. Lifelong friends of Up and acclaimed musicians in their own right). Afterwards, she embarked on a solo career that would give us a few albums on the wonderful Mr. Bongo label & her 2018 Merge debut Vessel of Love. Cook's enchanting style of lovers rock with modern soul & psychedelic nuances is self-described as "Tropical Pop". A smooth hybrid sound that'll be sure to grab the ear of anyone who listens, whether they be casual pop listeners, Reggae fanatics, r&b/soul heads or just a fan of music that vibes.
